Peace. Be Still.

A boat doesn’t sink because of the stormy waters around it, but because of the water that gets inside. It’s not about what’s around you. It’s about what’s within you.

Over the past month, I’ve had a lot of emotions trying to take root in my heart. Hurt. Anger. Bitterness. Frustration. Sadness. All of those emotions began fueling what felt like a hurricane in my soul. A raging storm that wanted to drown me in hopelessness. But a few months ago, the Lord asked me to draw a line in the sand and refuse to ever call any situation, person, or relationship hopeless when speaking to the God of Hope.

So, instead of giving in to the storm, I began feeding my peace.

Serving Satan an Eviction Notice: Destroying Strongholds

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” 
– 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Our words have power. Proverbs 18:21 confirms this: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” And before we dive into taking thoughts captive and destroying strongholds, it’s important to acknowledge that Satan does not have the same power we do. His words don’t hold the same weight as ours, so he gets more power when we speak his words for him. He wants us to do his dirty work. So, he frequently attacks us through thoughts and thought patterns because it is human nature to believe and say whatever we think or feel, and we give power to whatever we speak.

Faith in the Storm: Who’s in Your Boat?

Right now, we are all facing the same storm. We might be in different boats—some are in catamarans while some are in rowboats—but we are all aware of the angry skies and dark waters surrounding us.

The thing about boats is that they float on the water. Whether a catamaran or a rowboat, they can be completely surrounded and still stay above the waves. They don’t sink until the water gets inside them.

Which proves that what we let in matters.

A Modern Day Psalm: Dear God, Where Are You?

Dear God,

You say that all I have to do is call to You, and You will tell me things I do not know.

So, tell me: Where are You?

I can’t read the news anymore. There’s so much pain in the world right now, and I can’t help but wonder—where is Your light? You say You have overcome the world, but we still have to live in it, and it is so very broken. I tell my children that You are a good and loving God who will protect them.
