The Power in Obedience

A theme that runs from Genesis to Revelation is the tie between obedience and the miracles of God. We often pray for God to move, or open doors, or bring breakthrough. But Scripture shows us that, most often, God’s miracle-working power is released as we move, not before we move.

In Exodus 14, when the newly freed Israelites were being backed by the Egyptians into the sea, they froze in fear. But God said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to start moving.” Then He instructed Moses to stretch out his hand. And as Moses obeyed, the waters parted. Our flesh wants to stand on the shore until the water parts, but God’s command was to start moving in faith before He released the miracle.

From the Old Testament to the New, God has chosen to partner with human obedience to reveal His glory. Jesus modeled the same principle in His ministry:

The water didn’t become wine until the servants carried the jars in obedience. The loaves didn’t multiply until the disciples began passing them out. The paralytic wasn’t healed until he picked up his mat. The blind man didn’t see until he washed in the pool. The withered hand wasn’t restored until it was stretched out.

Again and again, Scripture shows us: obedience is the conduit of God’s power.

We cannot be passive spectators in the story of God’s Kingdom. In His sovereignty, He has chosen to work through His people. Our obedience doesn’t earn the miracles, but it positions us to receive and reveal them.

Heaven touches earth through willing hearts and faithful steps. So whatever God is speaking to you today, step into it. Instead of waiting for the next big move of God, recognize that the next move of God might be coming through your obedience.
