Battling in Prayer With Jesus

“Tarry with Me.”

The Lord gave me that phrase during my prayer time two years ago, and I had to go look it up because I wasn’t used to Him talking to me in KJV (lol).

I found it in Matthew, when Jesus was praying in the garden before the crucifixion, and He asked the disciples: Tarry with me.

Stay with me. Be in companionship with me and battle with me in prayer.

Hebrews 7:25 reminds us that Jesus lives forever to intercede for those who come to God through Him. He is constantly praying on our behalf.

I believe the invitation He gave the disciples in the garden is still the same today, for our current battles: Tarry with me. Let’s pray together.

When He came back and found the disciples sleeping, He said: “Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, so that you will not give into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Watch and pray. Those are our marching orders. Stay alert. Pray continuously: for eyes to see what He is doing, ears to hear what He is saying, and a heart to obey when He speaks. Our spirit is willing, but our flesh gets tired and burnt out from our to-do lists and busy schedules. It falls asleep in the garden when Jesus needs us to battle with Him in prayer.

I was recently encouraged by a testimony where—due to some crazy circumstances—a man found a ton of unexpected tasks dropped on his plate. When someone asked how he was going to manage all of it, he said he was going to pray an extra hour every day. When they asked how he could possibly fit an extra hour in when he was busier than ever, he replied, “Prayer is the only way I will get it done. I am too busy 𝑛𝑜𝑡 to pray!”

So, this is my prayer for today:

Father, there are a lot of things on my plate. I want to do them well, but I can’t do them without You. Help me watch and pray. Strengthen my spirit and teach me to tarry with You.
