Your Obedience, For Their Breakthrough

For the past few years, every time my husband has fasted with the Lord for an extended period, I have ended up having dreams and visions. In fact, it’s happened so frequently that it’s turned into a running joke between us about how being one flesh means that I get to reap the benefits of his obedience.

My point is this: God has shown us repeatedly how my husband’s laying down of his flesh leads to my revelation and breakthrough.

So, what does that mean for the wife who feels like she has to drag her husband to church and desperately wants to see him catch on fire for the Lord? For the husband who feels as though his wife only pours out complaints and criticism and prays for her to have a fresh encounter with the love of Christ?

If you have been praying for your spouse to go deeper in their faith—if you have found yourself frustrated by their response, demeanor, or perceived lack of hunger—I would submit that your next step might be finding ways to lay down your flesh. Not for your own breakthrough, but for theirs.

What if we can get to a place in faith where we are so certain of being one flesh, that every act of radical obedience is done with a heart convinced that our spouses will also benefit?

We see the same principle demonstrated in 2 Corinthians 5:21, when Christ who knew no sin became sin so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. The bridegroom’s perfect obedience led to His bride’s salvation, revelation, and victory.

Don’t stop fighting for your marriage.
Breakthrough is coming, in Jesus’ Name!
